EastWest's Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Wins NAMM TEC Award https://www.musicconnection.com/eastwests-hollywood-fantasy-orchestra-wins-namm-tec-award/ Fri, 02 Feb 2024 20:47:48 +0000 https://www.musicconnection.com/?p=132053
EastWest walked away from the annual NAMM TEC Award ceremony as a winner again this year. For the third time in five years, the software giant has taken home this prestigious award. Their latest instrument, Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra, received the award for Best Musical Instrument Software, a fiercely contested category with many big brand names competing for the title.
The EastWest team broke out in cheers of joy when the announcer proclaimed EastWest Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra as this year’s winner. Multi-award winning Producers Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix took the stage to receive the award together with Wolfgang Kundrus, Chief Technology Officer, and Blake Rogers, Chief Marketing Officer. Nick Phoenix thanked everyone in his acceptance speech and said: “It’s been an amazing ride with EastWest, being able to create crazy products.”

The TEC Award is only the latest gem in Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra’s crown: This innovative and completely different orchestra has amassed many accolades throughout the composer community. Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra bridges the gap between orchestral and world instruments - perfect for the next big fantasy epic or medieval tale. It features unique ensembles of world instruments, mixed with modern octave-doubled orchestral sections. Many of the instruments have been recorded in trios, creating a powerful and beautiful sparkling stereo image that cuts through any mix, all captured in stereo with surround sound options to create Dolby Atmos and other surround sound formats, plus all the features of EastWest’s Opus software.

Jeannie Seely To Be Honored At SOURCE Hall Of Fame Awards https://www.musicconnection.com/jeannie-seely-to-be-honored-at-source-hall-of-fame-awards/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 00:49:42 +0000 https://www.musicconnection.com/?p=131962 Grammy award-winning Country Star Jeannie Seely will be honored with the esteemed “Jo Walker-Meador Lifetime Achievement Award” at the SOURCE Hall of Fame Awards in recognition of her numerous career achievements and significant contributions in the music industry. Seely joins an elite group of Lifetime Achievement Award recipients including Jo Walker-Meador (2004), Brenda Lee (2006) and Frances Preston (2010). The annual awards ceremony will be presented by Springer Mountain Farms and is set for August 27, 2024 at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville.

"SOURCE is incredibly thankful for Jeannie's dedication to and support of this organization through the years," said SOURCE President Kari Barnhart. "Jeannie's dedication to her music, work as a radio host, long-time membership of the Grand Ole Opry, and willingness to mentor and guide emerging female artists speaks to who she is. She deserves to be celebrated and honored with the Jo Walker-Meador Lifetime Achievement Award."

Invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry early in her career, Jeannie today holds the distinction of having more Opry performances than any other artist. Only the third female in country music history to receive a Grammy award and the first female to regularly host Opry segments, Seely’s many awards and accolades demonstrate the impact she has had in the music industry. Those awards include the CMA’s Joe Talbot Award, a star in the Music City Walk of Fame, and BMI hit-songwriter awards. She is also a producer, author, actress, and host – including her own weekly show on SiriusXM.

Brian Tarquin and His Heavy Friends Release Veteran Benefit Album 'Beyond the Warrior's Eyes' https://www.musicconnection.com/brian-tarquin-and-his-heavy-friends-release-veteran-benefit-album-beyond-the-warriors-eyes/ Tue, 30 Jan 2024 08:37:00 +0000 https://www.musicconnection.com/?p=131942 Lifting up our veterans through music is something that Brian Tarquin & his Heavy Friends will do until there are  no more wars. Brian’s friends include superhero musicians that love working with him on a number of albums he’s  released from hard rock to jazz over the past (20) years). “‘Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” (released January 19, on  Downtown Music/Dashgo Distribution) honors military soldiers who defend our freedoms. I wanted a true star studded musician tribute of soaring instrumental songs. So, I was very fortune to get such iconic players as Jean Luc Ponty, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford and Steve Morse to help me express our gratitude.”

A heavy and glorious fusion-prog collection, “Beyond the Warrior’s Eyes” is Brian and his friends (Jean Luc Ponty, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford (Miles Davis), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Dean Brown (David Sanborn), Hal  Lindes (Dire Straits), Chris Poland (Megadeth), John Tropea (Billy Cobham), Steve Kindler (Jeff Beck), Carl  Verheyen (Supertramp) & Larry McCray (John Mayall), the late Phil Naro, and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra)  latest collaborative album. “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” mission is to support the charity, Hope For The  Warriors, who provide medical care, mental health counseling, professional training and education, physical  conditioning and transition services for wounded, ill, and injured Marines and Navy members.  hopeforthewarriors.org

“Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” Special Donation Page: support.hopeforthewarriors.org/Beyond-The-Warriors-Eyes

The album “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” was produced, engineered and composed entirely by Brian Tarquin. Well connected with star musicians, he is a one-man army playing all instruments except drums where studio drummer  Reggie Pryor lends his services. The album was recorded in Tarquin’s Jungle Room Studios on 2” analog tape  through a vintage Trident London 24 console and a host of analog outboard gear. Brian transferred the recording to  either Pro Tools or Logic, finishing the recording digitally. He lastly recorded all final mixes down to an Ampex  440C ¼” 2 track analog tape. Tape Op Interview on process: https://tapeop.com/interviews/158/brian-tarquin/

Tarquin has won 3 Emmy's for “Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series”  and has been nominated for an Emmy 6 times. In 2022 & 2023 the Josie Music Awards nominated Tarquin for  "Musician of the Year (Guitar)" and "Music Producer of the Year." Additionally, in 2023 the Josie Music Awards  nominated Brian Tarquin & Heavy Friends: Brothers In Arms for "Instrumental Album of the Year" and "Music  Video of the Year" for “Speed of Sound” featuring Joe Satriani. Resulting in Satriani and Tarquin winning Best  Video award in 2023. In 2019 Tarquin received a Global Music Gold Award for his release Orlando In Heaven for  “Best Album.” In 2023 the Hollywood Independent Music Awards nominated his company BHP Music-Guitar Trax  Records for "Independent Record Label of the Year."

Quotes from Artists on “Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes”

“Beyond The Warrior’s Eyes” is the song that inspired me the most to play on when Brian asked me to collaborate  on his album, and I am very happy to be part of this project to help U.S. Veterans get what they need.  -Jean Luc Ponty

Brian Tarquin’s superb latest offering is brimming with fresh, funky, killer grooves and majestic soaring guitar  melodies featuring French virtuoso violinist Jean Luc Ponty, shredding it up on “Beyond The Warrior Eyes.” -Hal Lindes (Dire Starits)

It's always my pleasure to play on anything Brian brings my way, but this particular project I felt was a bit more  important. Here we honor our veterans for their courage and sacrifice

-Chris Poland (Megadeth)

Brian is a great guy to work with and is very versatile at all parts of this music business. Kudos to Phil Naro,  coming up with another great vocal part for “These Colors Don't Run”!

-Steve Morse (Deep Purple)

Collaborating on “La Sierra del Norte” with Brian was a joy. The challenge was to play as melodic as possible in  6/8 time with a completely different tone than the melody.

-Carl Verheyen (Supertramp)

Brian has put together a stellar group of guitarists and provided wonderful vehicles for creative improvisation. I'm  thrilled to be a part of the project and this worthy cause.

-Dean Brown (David Sanborn)

The funds were raised from the 7th annual concert event which took place on November 12, 2023 at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre and featured an out-of-this-world bill with performances by Walsh and Stephen Stills, Jeff Lynne’s ELO, The War on Drugs, The Flaming Lips, Lucius, Jack Tempchin and the San Diego Marine Band.

VetsAid divided the proceeds from the 2023 concert event into various sized grants and all recipients were chosen by Walsh and the VetsAid board after a rigorous application process. Grant recipients were selected and announced just before the concert event last November. The disbursements are as follows:

$5,000 – Zero8Hundred – Delivering individualized support to service members, spouses and their families before, during and after transition to thrive in their post military life.

$5,000 – Navy Marine Corps PROUD Foundation – Providing financial and in-kind support to San Diego County’s County’s Navy Marine Corps Relief Society programs & local active duty Sailors, Marines, Veterans, Retirees and their families in need.

Providing support to organizations that care for America’s veterans as well as their families is deeply personal to Walsh, himself a Gold Star survivor whose father died while on active duty on Okinawa, Japan when Walsh was just 20 months old.

“San Diego welcomed us with open arms… on a very cold night! They bundled up and rocked out with us under the stars for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration and salute of our precious veterans and the community we’ve built. VetsAid 2023 was a demonstration of the power of great music to unite, spread joy and be a part of something bigger than all of us… and to me, that’s America.” Walsh explains. “I’m grateful to all the fans, supporters and road dogs who now follow our traveling circus to points across the country. We’ll see you back on the East Coast for 2024!”

Additional event details to be announced.

Tracy Lawrence Donates Over $250k At 18th Annual Mission:Possible Turkey Fry https://www.musicconnection.com/tracy-lawrence-donates-over-250k-at-18th-annual-missionpossible-turkey-fry/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 23:42:06 +0000 https://www.musicconnection.com/?p=129929 Country music artist and philanthropist, Tracy Lawrence, hosted his 18th annual Mission:Possible Turkey Fry and Benefit Concert in Nashville, TN Nov. 21. The day kicked off at the Nashville Fairgrounds with over 250 volunteers who helped fry over 1,200 turkeys that will be distributed throughout Middle Tennessee, providing over 10k meals to those in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. Building on that momentum, Lawrence was joined by Lee Brice, Priscilla Block and Halfway to Hazard for a packed out benefit concert at Wildhorse Saloon and donated another $250k towards Mission:Possible's long-time partner, Nashville Rescue Mission. The yearly event has now provided more than 86k meals to the homeless across Middle Tennessee and raised over $1M for Nashville Rescue Mission. Take a look at the event here.

“I'm very proud of what Mission:Possible has grown into over the last 18 years,” Lawrence shared. “To see hundreds of volunteers frying turkeys for hours is nothing short of incredible. I want to thank Lee, Priscilla and Halfway to Hazard for being a part of this memorable and giving event.”

The Turkey Fry kicked off bright and early at the Nashville Fairgrounds — the second year at the upgraded location to accommodate the growing event — with Lawrence kicking off the daytime event by dropping the first turkey into the fryer. Lawrence's cause called upon star-studded helping hands including Gary Allan, Chris Young, Jamey Johnson, Ian Munsick, Travis Denning, Phil Vassar, Spencer Crandall, Frank Ray, David Lee Murphy, Trey Lewis, Kasey Tyndall, Noah Thompson and the evening's performers including Halfway to Hazard. The charity event brought in dozens of industry members and the greater Nashville community to lend a hand in the massive undertaking.
